Description This article describes the email delivery problem when activating the SMTP Signature feature.
Components

FortiGate v2.80MR8.

Solution

Using the FortiGate unit's SMTP Signature feature may prevent certain email servers from accepting an email.

Under certain circumstances, our Signature is not properly terminated with a carriage return/line feed (CRLF), but instead with only a line feed (LF).

This occurs when you add the Signature from the web-based manager, adding multiple lines and pressing Enter at the end of each line.

When entering a signature this way, each line is actually terminated with only a LF instead of CRLF.

Entering only a single line as a Signature (and not terminating it with Enter) will result in a properly formatted signature and will not pose a problem.

'Qmail' SMTP servers seem to be most affected by this Bare-LF issue and refuse to accept our mis-formatted emails.

Update.

This issue is corrected in MR10 (build 456).
