Configuring Microsoft Exchange servers to interoperate with FortiMail units

Components

  • All FortiMail versions
  • Microsoft Exchange servers
  • Windows 2000

Description

Unlike FortiMail units, Microsoft Exchange servers do not, by default, use standard SMTP protocol to communicate with each other. If you have multiple Exchange servers and want to deploy a FortiMail unit between the servers, use the following steps to configure the Exchange servers so that they can communicate with the FortiMail unit.

The following procedure describes how to configure a Microsoft Exchange server that is running on Windows 2000 to use SMTP.

To configure Microsoft Exchange servers to communicate using SMTP

  1. On the Windows 2000 server, which has an Exchange server installed, use regedt32.exe to open the registry.
  2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft and select Exchange.
  3. On the menu bar, select Edit and then Add Key.
  4. For Key Name, type StoreDriver.
  5. Leave the Class field empty and select OK.
  6. Select the new key, StoreDriver.
  7. On the menu bar, select Edit and then Add Key.
