Description | Explanation and resolution of the "File is not an update file" error message. |
Components |
All FortiGate units |
Steps or Commands |
When updating the firmware on your FortiGate unit, the FortiGate unit may display the error message "File is not an update file." when the firmware file is not intended for your FortiGate unit. For example, you might have downloaded the firmware for the FortiGate 1000 rather than for the FortiGate 100, or attempted to use a firmware intended for FortiGate 20C unit (file name usually starting with "FGT" letters for FortiGate units) on a FortiWiFi 20C unit (file name would typically start with "FWF" letters for FortiWiFi units).
Also, if a particular firmware image file was corrupted during the download or storage, it would no longer be usable. When you are confident in the correctness of the file name, you may wish to check the integrity of that file using the MD5 checksum method.
To resolve this issue, please check your file name and its MD5 sum, and re-download the correct firmware file for your FortiGate unit as necessary. |
