Description | The FortiGate unit will only tag POP3 and IMAP spam messages, while the FortiGate can tag or deny SMTP messages. |
Components |
|
Steps or Commands | In the protection profile for Spam Filtering (AntiSpam), the administrator can select to either tag or deny an SMTP Spam email message. For POP3 and IMAP, the only setting is Tag. When using POP3 or IMAP protocols, the email server has already received the email message. It is too late for the FortiGate unit to deny (reject) the email messages. With SMTP, the FortiGate unit can reject SMTP sessions and block the email before it can reach the email server, or alternatively, tag the message for the end user to deal with. With the tagging enabled, the end user can add a rule within their email client to move the presumed spam to a separate folder for later review or automatically delete it, by indicating in the rule to look for the tagged text in the subject line of the message. |
