Steps or Commands | Intel PRO wireless chipsets include a power saving option on the wireless card. This option, called Power Save Polling (PSP), helps to extend the battery life of the laptop. For this feature to work, the wireless access point must support PSP. FortiWiFi devices do not currently support the PSP feature. To ensure a wireless connection remains intact, you can set the laptop wireless adapter to continually aware mode (CAM), which turns off the PSP functionality. For details, see your laptop or wireless adaptor documentation. An example of where this setting is changed on an Intel 3945ABG, is displayed below. The Linksys PCMCIA WiFi adapter also had a "Power Save Mode" setting under the NIC adapter Properties tab. Disabling this setting, may reduce packet latency and improve data performance. |
