In the Statistics window on the FortiGate dashboard, the Content Archive section includes an Email count for sent and received.
Emails sent (outgoing) is uses the SMTP protocol. Any SMTP traffic will register as a sent email. Emails received (incoming) is uses the POP3 protocol. Any POP3 traffic will register as an incoming email.
The terms sent and received may be misleading, as the direction of traffic does not determine if the email was sent or received, but whether it was transferred using SMTP or POP3.
For example, if you use POP3 for both incoming and outgoing email, all of your email will be considered incoming for this statistic.
