Description Formatting the ASM-S08 hard disk during installation.
Components
  • FortiGate units with AMC card support.
  • FortiGate ASM-S08 hard drive module
  • FortiOS 3.0
Steps or Commands

When you install the FortiGate ASM-S08 hard drive module into a compatible FortiGate unit, you may have to format the hard drive after inserting it into the FortiGate unit.

After installing the ASM-S08, and you start the FortiGate unit, in the console you may see the following messages during startup:

Reading boot image 1266886 bytes. Initializing firewall...
System is started.
Cannot mount /dev/sda1 at /var/log
mount_all(): failed

If you see these messages, you need to format the ASM-S08 hard disk. Use the CLI commands below to formate the drive.

execute formatlogdisk

The FortiGate unit displays the message:

This will erase all data on the log disk, and system will reboot!
Do you want to continue? (y/n)

Select Y to begin the format. Once the FortiGate unit completes the reboot cycle, you will be able to use the ASM-S08 module and configure logging to the disk by going to Log&Report> Log Config.
