This article describes key information about FortiManager system upgrading, downgrading, and configuration restoration.
Scope
FortiManager.
Solution
• FortiManager DOES NOT SUPPORT downgrades on a populated or even a factory default database
• FortiManager DOES NOT SUPPORT the restore of a backup file, on a mis-matching firmware version.
• FortiManager DOES NOT SUPPORT the restore of a backup file, on a matching firmware version with an existing database (configuration).
• FortiManager upgrade path MUST BE FOLLOWED as indicated in the Release Notes
It may be possible to perform some of these operations which are not supported and not see an immediate problem. However, unrecoverable back-end problems will be encountered during eventual usage.
After any firmware downgrade, the FortiManager MUST be factory reset.
For ANY configuration restore procedure, the FortiManager MUST be first factory reset.
