Description
What is the function of FortiClient Optimization feature during installation?
Solution
FortiClient Optimization performs a pre-scan of files in the windows, windows/system32 and selected program files folders during installation (refer to FCT_Optimization.PNG).

This pre-scan creates a digital signature database of files that are digitally signed by trusted vendors. The digital signature database supersedes a hard-coded database that is used in previous FortiClient versions. After the scan completes (or if the user "skips" the pre-scan), the digital signature database is updated automatically in the background with new signatures by components in the Antivirus and Firewall features.

The database is used by the Antivirus feature to reduce the number of files that are required to be scanned by Antivirus. The Firewall feature also uses this list as a "known good list" so that the end user is not asked if they want applications like iexplore.exe and explorer.exe to access network resources.

The installer pre-scan can be completely disabled by setting the Microsoft Installer (MSI) public property OPTIMIZE=0. This setting does not stop the post installation automatic database updates by the Antivirus and Firewall features.
