Description
This article explains how to ensure USB Stick detection from the GUI of the FortiGate.

Scope
All FortiOS

Solution
If the USB Stick is not inserted then the USB operation option will appear as grayed out. In the following example to back-up a system configuration file without the USB Stick inserted will be shown as an unavailable option on the GUI, at the following location:

Prior to FortiOS 4.0MR2 :System > Maintenance
Since    FortiOS 4.0MR2 :System > Dashboard > System Configuration > Backup

Once physically inserted in the system, the "USB Disk" option will become available and the system configuration of the FortiGate will be available for backup via the USB Stick. This GUI behavior is valid for all other "USB Disk" operations.

If the USB Stick used remains undetected by FortiOS despite it's physical insertion in a USB port, please contact Fortinet Support.

The following example shows when an external 500GB USB disk is inserted into the FortiGate USB port.
