Technical Note: FortiGate 3950 series micro switch console access information

Description

This article gives a visual description of the micro switches at the front of the FortiGate 3950 device and their required positions to enable console access. This solution applies to the FortiGate 3950 series only.

Scope

FortiOS v4.0 MR2 Patch 2 and above.

FortiGate 3950 series only.

Solution

On the front of the FortiGate 3950B and 3951B appliances, there are 2 small micro switches to the bottom left of the device labelled "USB" and "MGMT2". These micro switches are flicked to the right for console access management to work. This positioning is by default and must not be modified in any instance.

If the micro switches are flicked all the way to the right and console management is not available, open a FortiCare ticket via the Customer Service & Support website at https://support.fortinet.com.
