Description
This article explains how to proceed when the error message "gcu: Unable to retrieve data from MDIO_STATUS_REG" floods the console of the FortiGate.

All FortiOS versions.
Solution
1. Power the FortiGate OFF and ON. Stop the boot sequence by pressing any key when the following message is displayed during the system restart:
Press any key to display configuration menu...
2. Once the boot sequence has been stopped proceed to format the FortiGate by selecting the 'Format boot device' option from the configuration menu:
Press [F] for "Format boot device"
3. When formatting is complete, reload the firmware image using an appropriate TFTP software. Refer to the related article for notes on loading FortiGate firmware.
