Description

The FortiWeb VM accesses log files from a virtual machine disk (VMDK) file.

The following steps outline how to add a new VMDK to replace the original VMDK using VMware Player 5.

This procedure is helpful when upgrading to a larger VMDK, or to confirm if a VMDK file is corrupt (for instance if a virtual disk refuses to mount inside a VM).

Solution

1. Power off the VM.

2. Remove the disk from the VM but still keep it stored.

3. Create a new virtual disk for testing. Type: SCSI and store it as a single file.

4. Add this new disk to the FortiWeb VM.

5. Start the VM. The disk will not be detected initially and the 'log disk is not mounted' message will be seen.

6. Format the log disk (this will reboot the FortiWeb VM): exec formatlogdisk at CLI

7. Upon reboot check the disk list: diag sys mount list at CLI

The new disk should now be listed and the assignment should be /var/log. Check the logs after a few hours of activity just to confirm success.
