Configuring an AP in “Remote AP” mode.

Solution

GUI CONFIGURATION STEPS:

Step 1: In the left window pane, click on “Configuration” >> Wireless (ESS) >> select ESS profile where the Remote AP feature is required, click “settings”

Step 2: Choose “Bridged” in the “Dataplane Mode” field. All APs that join this ESS will now run in Remote AP mode.

CLI CONFIGURATION STEPS:

Step 1: In the controller CLI, type “configure terminal”

Step 2: Type “essid xxx” (where xxx is the name of the ESSID)

Step 3: Type “dataplane bridged”

Step 4: Type “end” to save changes and exit to Priveledged exec mode.

LIMITATIONS IF ANY: for versions prior to 3.6, the remote AP feature can be enabled by going to the individual AP settings page, clicking on “Connectivity” and selecting “On” for the Remote AP field. Additionally, many features such as VLANs, Captive Portal, Virtual Cell etc. will be disabled for the ESS when APs are in remote-AP mode.
