Description

Devices seem to group within one area of a fingerprint; a client who is connected to our specific network seems to be connected to a pyramid looking station which looked like an AP. However this pyramid always had the MAC address starting with 06:06, and the last 6 digits off the laptop mac address. Also the access point seems to be moving with the laptop from fingerprint to fingerprint. The data does not correspond with the access point which the device is connected to.

Scope

KB ARTICLE TYPE: Troubleshooting

RELATED PRODUCTS: AP208, SA1000

RELATED SOFTWARE VERSIONS: N/A

KEYWORDS: pyramid, MAC address, system, tracking engine

Solution
STEPS TAKEN FOR TROUBLESHOOTING:

STEP 1: In the UI for the platform (https://hostname) navigated to the "System" menu and selected "Settings". Once the page was displayed added the following to the URL to display a hidden tab called "Tracking Engine": ?advanced=true (https://hostname/system/settings?advanced=true)

This brought an additional settings tab called 'Tracking Engine' where we can make the adjustments to improve tracking latency.

STEP 2: Logged into the regular UI of the Location Manager https://<LocationManagerIPAddress>
- Once logged in, then changed the address bar to: https://<LocationManagerIPAddress>/system/logdevices
- Added the MAC address of the computer to be logged (00:21:FE:57:C3:EA) to the list of devices to be logged.
- Captured some information for about 10 minutes.
- Logged into the Administrative UI: https://<LocationManagerIPAddress>:8003
- Clicked on 'Backup and Restore' in the Left Side Menu
- Created a backup file and downloaded it for analysis.

STEP 3: Changed the following settings from here:
- Maximum Sample Age (measured in milliseconds) default value is 30000, changed to 8,000
- Minimum Sample Interval (measured in milliseconds) default value is 1100, change to 200
- Correction Delay (prediction) default value is 3, change to 2

RESOLUTION: Display issue was corrected.
