Description

This article explains how to reset the admin password on a FortiDB.

Solution

The following are required in order to reset the FortiDB administrator password:

- Console cable.
- Terminal software such as Putty.exe (Microsoft Windows) or Terminal (Mac OS X).
- Serial number of the FortiDB device.

Steps to reset the FortiDB password.

1) Connect the computer to the FortiDB via the Console port on the back of the unit.

2) Start a terminal emulation program on the management computer.

3) Select the COM port and use the following settings:

Speed (baud) 9600
Data bits 8
Stop bits 1
Parity None
Flow Control None

4) Press Open to connect to the FortiDB  CLI.

5) The FortiDB should then respond with its name or hostname. (If it does not, try pressing Enter)

6) Reboot the FortiDB using the power button.

7) Wait for the FortiDB name and login prompt to appear.

8) Type in the username: maintainer

9) The password is bcpb + the serial number of the firewall. The letters of the serial number should be entered in uppercase, for example: bcpbFD3KDXYZXYZXYZX  (where FD3KDXYZXYZXYZX is the serial number of the FortiDB).

10) Once connected to the FortiDB, enter the following CLI command to change the admin password:

# execute reset admin-password

The above command will now reset the password to the default value of fortidb1!$

11) Log in to the FortiDB using admin and the default password fortidb1!$
