Description
This article explains how to reset the admin password on a FortiBalancer.

Solution
To recover the login password, administrators will need the aid of the Fortinet Support and should open a technical assistance support ticket.

The recovery steps are as follows:

1.) Establish a console connection with the FortiBalancer appliance.

2.) Input the command 'recovery' in the CLI.

3.) The FortiBalancer appliance will present the administrator with a challenge, which consists of  a  series of randomly generated characters.  The following line displays the prompt 'response:'.

4.) The administrator will need to copy and paste the challenge characters into a technical assistance support ticket.

5.) Fortinet support  will return to the administrator a valid response that corresponds to the challenge previously received.  The response begins with  '--begin --' and ends with '--end--'.

6.) The administrator should copy the complete response and paste it after the 'response:' prompt in CLI, making sure that no leading or trailing spaces are included.  Press 'Enter'.
 

7.) The password of 'fortinet' will be reset to the default 'admin', and the access privilege of 'fortinet' will be reset to the default 'Config mode'.

This process will work only if the default admin account on the device exists.

The device should not be rebooted in between obtaining the challenge text (step 3) and entering the response (step 6).  If the device is rebooted or turned off/on during this time then the whole process has to be repeated.
