Sometimes it is desired to monitor a device interface as up or down using ping only.
When discover devices in AO with ping-only discovery they get grouped under "Ungrouped" in CMDB. The reason for this is that Device Group is determined during discovery using information pulled from either SNMP or WMI. However, in this case, neither of these protocols is being used. So there is no way for AO to determine the appropriate Device Group automatically.
This article provides a procedure to get these devices in other, more appropriate groups in the CMDB.
Solution Step
1. Delete existing device from CMDB if you already discovered it.
2. Create new device with target IP address and hostname under expected group in CMDB
3. Perform Device discovery again.
4. Go to Admin->Setup Wizard->Monitor Change/Performance tab and verify created device.
