Description
I have configured SNMP on AIX according to the User's Guide but my SNMP discovery fails. Why?
1) verify which version of SNMP is running on your AIX server and confirm your AO SNMP credential is configured for the same version.
a) run this command at command line of AIX server. It will be a symbolic link to the actual snmp daemon running.
# ls –latr /usr/sbin/snmpd
b) if you need/want to switch versions you need to run the command 'snmpv3_sww' from the command line of your AIX server. Here is a
link to information about that command.
2) verify that the AO box has proper permissions to poll the MIBs/OIDs on the AIX server.
a) check file /etc/snmpd.conf or /etc/snmpdv3.conf, depending on the version you are using
Here is a link to IBMs documentation on SNMP. This is the best reference for configuring SNMP on an AIX server.
