Description

Summary:

AO's default VMware adapter is E1000 which only supports 1Gbps. Switching to the 10Gbps can greatly improve performance of your AO system.

Using VMXNet3 Adapter for VMware
To achieve the best network throughput in VMware environments, delete the E1000 network adapter and add one that uses VMXNet3 for the eth0/eth1 network configuration. VMXNet3 adapter supports 10Gbps networking between VMs on the same host as well as across hosts, though you must also have a 10Gbps physical network adapter to achieve that level of throughput across hosts. You may need to upgrade the virtual hardware version in order to have the ability to use VMXNet3.

These are the steps to be done:

  1. Edit /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules as root and remove the entry that identifies as eth0
  2. Shutdown the super or worker
  3. Using vSphere, Remove the network adapter with type E1000 and add an adapter of type VMXNet3
  4. Make sure you connect this network adapter to the same network as the previous adapter
  5. Boot up the VM. eth0 should now come up with the new driver

If you have more than 1 adapter (eth0 and eth1), this needs to be done one adapter at a time including the reboot cycle. Otherwise, it can switch around to the other adapter.
