Wireless client load balancing

Description

Sometimes we want to distribute wireless traffic between wireless access point or frequency bands in a better way to be more efficiently.

Type of load balancing:

Access Point Hand-off (switch to another AP)

Frequency Hand-off (switch to the lesser-used frequency)

Scope

Explain how to configure wireless client load Balancing.

Not to explain theory in wireless 

Solution

Confiuration from web-based

Go Wifi & switch controller > Wifi Networks > FortiAP Propfiles > Edit the profile that you want

And click on

Select Frequency handoff or AP handoff or both for the radio that you want.

Confiuration from CLI

To configure from CLI follow the example:

Handoff-rssi: Enter the minimum RSSI value for handoff (default 25)

Handoff-sta-thresh: Enter the threshold value for AP handoff. (default 30)

frequency-handoff: Enable or disable handoff of clients to other channels (default disable)

Ap-handoff:  Enable or disable handoff of clients to other APs. (default disable)
