Description
This article explains the FortiOS upgrade procedure in a FortiGate Session Life Support Protocol (FGSP) cluster.

Solution
The standalone-config-sync setting manages the configuration synchronization in a FGSP cluster.  It will also change the behavior of the FortiOS upgrade procedure in FGSP.  This setting is available under “system ha” configuration:

config system ha
          set standalone-config-sync (enable|disable)

If standalone-config-sync is set to enable:  FortiOS image should be uploaded to the master config sync unit.  The image will then be sent to the slave config sync unit.  Both units will start the upgrade process simultaneously.

If standalone-config-sync is set to disable:  FortiOS image should be uploaded to both master and slave config sync units manually.  The upgrade will start when the image is uploaded.  It is possible to delay the upgrade on the slave unit to avoid network outage during the master unit upgrade.
