Description
This article explains how to assign the same AP-ID to a replacement AP.

Scope
Forti-WLC and AP

Solution
If the new AP is Enabled Online on the controller, collect the MAC address of the new AP on the AP table (Configuration > Devices > AP’s)

Power off the AP.  The AP will now be Disabled Offline.

Delete the entry of the new AP and the old AP.  Under Configuration > Devices > AP’s, select the specific AP checkbox and click on delete.

Add the entry of an AP manually with the AP ID, AP Name  and provide the MAC address of the AP, save the configuration.

Power on the AP and the AP will come up Enabled Online with the configured AP ID.

Copy the configuration to startup config.

# copy running-config startup-config
