Description
Network Interfaces Deleted on ESX After OS Upgrade

Scope
Version:  Network Sentry 7.1
Solution
Version:  Network Sentry 7.1

Issue:
Operating System Updates on ESX VMs that have been configured using VMware Tools cause the configuration changes to be overwritten. VMware Tools is typically used to configure "VMXNET 3" type Adapters. Consequently, installing the O/S Updates can cause "VMXNET 3" type Adapters to no longer function.

Workaround:  Reconfigure VMware Tools on each VM that is using an adapter of type "VMXNET 3".
1. Access the Console of the VM and log in as root.
2. Type
/usr/bin/vmware-config-tools.pl -d
3. Type the following to confirm that the interfaces are displayed correctly for eth0, eth1, etc.

ip address show

SOLUTION:This issue has been addressed in Network Sentry version 7.2.x.
