Description

Port/interface descriptions configured in a switch modeled in Topology/Inventory are not updating in Ports view when Resync Interfaces is run.

By default, the appliance does not overwrite the port descriptions in Topology/Inventory with the port descriptions on the actual switch.  This was done based upon customer feedback.

Scope

Version: 8 and above

Solution

Version 9.4 and greater:  Enable this feature via the UI using the 'Preserve Port Names' option. This can be done globally or per device.  Refer to the following 9.4 Administration Guide links:

Global setting

Device level setting

Version 9.2 and lowerEnable this feature via the appliance CLI.  For instructions, see Enable Port Description Overwrite in section Resync Interfaces of the applicable version of the Administration Guide:

Once enabled, any port description changes made on the switch itself will be updated once one of the following is done:
  • Services are restarted.
  • Resync Interfaces is run on the device model (either manually or through a scheduled task).
