Description
Agent no longer communicates with appliance (unable to scan, receive messages, etc).
Agent version in Host View shows a version higher than what is listed on the actual machine.

This suggests an attempt was made to push an older version of agent to the host and the agent was corrupted in the process.

This behavior can occur if both the appliance and a software management system (Directory, SCCM, etc) are configured to update the agent.  If the methods are set to push different versions, it could cause repeated attempts to upgrade: one from the appliance and one from the software management system.

Solution

Use the same method to update the agent that was used to initially distribute the agent.

  • If agent was distributed via Captive Portal, the agent can be updated via Global Update Feature or Host View.
  • If a software push was used to distribute the agent, use it to update the agents.  If using software, disable the Global Update feature in the appliance Administration UI
1) Navigate to System > Settings > Persistent Agent Update
2) Uncheck the boxes next to "Update Windows Agents to Version" and "Mac OSX Agents to Version"

For more information, refer to the Persistent Agent Deployment and Configuration reference manual.
