Description
Issue:  High hard drive utilization on either the Control Server or the Application Server.

Example:
df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda3 9.7G 9.0G 229M 98% /
/dev/sda5 172G 2.9G 160G 2% /bsc
/dev/sda2 31G 1.5G 28G 6% /var
/dev/sda1 99M 15M 80M 16% /boot
tmpfs 5.9G 0 5.9G 0% /dev/shm

Solution
One cause for high drive utilization is too many backup or log files being archived.  This can include any of the following:
  • Database Backups
  • Connections logs
  • Event logs
  • Alarm logs
  • Scan results logs
  • System Backups (Backup of all system files that are used to configure the appliance, such as license key and web server configurations.)
To view the number of days the files are being kept before deletion, navigate to:
System > Settings > Database Archive  (for database backups and logs)
System > Settings > System Backups

To resolve: Modify the values in the Database Archive and System Backups view to only save the necessary number of days.

  • One of the appliances has been configured as the remote backup server (such as the Application Server)There is no mechanism for the appliance to manage backup files copied from another appliance.  Therefore, backup files are never removed and can fill the drive.
To view the Remote Backup Configuration, navigate to :
System > Settings > Remote Backup Configuration

To resolve: It is recommended that a 3rd party server (not one of the appliances) be used when configuring remote backups.
