Description
Outdated IP Address Information When L3 Polling Cisco Devices

Scope
Version:  Network Sentry 7 & 8
Solution
Version:  Network Sentry 7 and 8

Issue:  IP address information from Cisco devices is out-dated in Network Sentry when using SNMP for L3 Polling.

SNMP does not provide timestamps on entries to coincide with ARP entries.  Therefore, when IP Addresses change, Network Sentry cannot determine which one is current.

Solution:
Use CLI to retrieve ARP information from Cisco devices so the timestamps can be used and the IP Address information will be more accurate.  (
Note:  When using CLI, full read/write access is required to collect L2/L3 information):

1.  Navigate to Network Devices > Topology.
2.  Click on the L3 Cisco device in the left panel and click the Element tab.
3.  Click the Advanced checkbox.
4.  Deselect the Use SNMP to read L2/L3 data from the device check box.
5.  Click Save.
