Description
As of this writing, the following Alcatel switches do not support MAC Notification traps:
Alcatel-Lucent 6250 24 PORT COPPER FE 6.6.2.249.R01
Alcatel-Lucent OS6850-U24X 6.4.3.640.R01
Alcatel-Lucent OS6850-24X 6.4.3.640.R01

Therefore, link state traps must be configured.

Note the following:
  • Based on switch model and version, some of the commands may differ.  If these commands do not work as expected, consult the Product Manual or Alcatel Support.
  • In an environment where a large number of devices and ports are managed, the best practice on switches that support SNMP MAC notification traps is to use these traps, instead of the standard link state traps, to increase performance.
  • Ports with IP Phones connected will not change data VLANs immediately if a host is connected behind the phone.

Solution
For instructions on configuring link traps for these devices, refer to the document Configuring Traps for MAC Notification in the Fortinet Document Library.
