Description

This article describes how to troubleshoot gaming devices unable to register via the Captive Portal using the Game Device Registration page.

Scope

Version: 9.x and greater

Solution

  1. Symptom:  Message displays a message stating the MAC address is not valid. Navigate to System > Settings > Identification > Vendor OUIs.
  2. Under filter select Vendor OUI.
  3.  Search for the device's Vendor OUI (first 6 characters of the MAC address).
  • OUI is already in the database:  Confirm the Registration Type = Gaming Device. If something different, the Registration Type Override can be used to define the Gaming Device type.  See "Modify a vendor OUI" under Vendor OUIs in the Administration Guide for details.
  • “No records found” is returned:
    a) Run Auto-Definition updates under System > Scheduler. Select the Auto-Definition Synchronizer task and select Run Now.
    b) If OUI is still not available when searched, manually add the OUI. See "Add a vendor OUI" under Vendor OUIs in the Administration Guide for details.

Device fails to register with no specific message or address cannot be found: Verify device's MAC address shows online in FortiNAC under Users & Hosts > Adapters.
