Technical Tip: How to manually update AV definition on FortiMail

Description
This article explains how to manually update AV Definition for a FortiMail unit
Solution
1) Log in to the Customer Service & Support web portal here, and select the 'Download' option, followed by 'FortiGuard Service Updates'.

2) Select FortiMail, download the files for AV Definition ("Virus Definition") based on the correct OS version of your device.

3) The current AV Definition version in a FortiMail unit can be checked from either the Web GUI or via CLI.

    Web GUI:
    Go to: System -> FortiGuard -> License -> FortiGuard Service Status

CLI:
Run the following command and look for “Virus Definitions”.

4) Update the AV definition through the Web GUI or CLI:

Web GUI:
Go to: Dashboard -> Status -> License Information

Click on 'Update' and select the file which was previously downloaded from the support site.

Press OK to continue.

CLI:
Run the following command:

# execute restore av tftp <filename> <TFTP IP address>

5) Verify the AV definition has been updated by comparing the result with the AV definition shown in the step number.
