Description
After upgrading from a pre-8.5 version to 8.5 or higher, various functions stop working as expected.

Examples include:
  • SNMP trap processing
  • Syslog

Security updates in version 8.5 and higher require CentOS 7.4 and above.  Customers that have not run OS updates recently on their system(s) may not meet this requirement and are therefore susceptible to this issue.

The current CentOS version installed is listed upon login to the CLI:

Solution
Prior to upgrading, ensure the system's CentOS version is at least 7.4.  If it isn't, run OS updates and reboot before upgrading the software.  Refer to the Overview section of the applicable Release Notes in the Fortinet Document Library for details.

Note:  Versions 8.5.4, 8.6.2 and above run an OS check as part of the upgrade process.  The upgrade will abort and display an error if the OS version does not meet the requirement.

If the system does not meet the version requirement but the software has already been upgraded, run OS updates and reboot.
