Description
This article describes after upgrading to FortiNAC 8.6.2 or higher, Self-Registration no longer works. This behaviour affects accounts that do not require sponsor approval.  Symptoms vary depending upon the Default Sponsor Email value in the Portal Configuration...

Symptom 1:  The portal page does not allow the user to proceed after filling out the required information and clicking “Request Guest Access”. No error is presented to the user.

Self-Registration Portal Configuration:
Required Sponsor Approval = NONE
Default Sponsor Email = <blank>


Symptom 2:  User is presented with the following message “Invalid Self Registration Configuration. Cannot define a defaulting sponsor and also allow anyone to sponsor”.  

Self-Registration Portal Configuration:
Required Sponsor Approval = NONE
Default Sponsor Email = <email address defined>

Solution

Symptom 1 Solution:  Addressed in versions 8.6.4 and 8.7.2.
 
Symptom 2 Solution:
1. Upgrade to 8.6.4 or 8.7.2 (or above).
2. Login to the Administration UI and navigate to System > Portal Configuration.
3. Expand Registration and click Self Registration Login 
4. Remove the entry in Default Sponsor Email (must be blank)
5. Set Required Sponsor Approval to something other than None.
6. De-select Sponsor Approval Link Requires Login
7. Set Required Sponsor Approval back to None.
8. De-select Notify Sponsor of Guest Details.
9. Click Apply.
