Description
This article describes why the IP shown in the DNS record mismatches with the IP assigned to the Windows store FortiClient SSL VPN adaptor.
Solution
Usually, the IP assigned to the FortiClient SSL VPN adapter (visible in Windows network adaptor) is mapped within the DNS records of the server for that specific client/system, however, while using the Windows store FortiClient application, the mapped IP into the DNS server record will not match the FortiClient SSL VPN adapter IP, instead, the DNS record will be formed with the respective client/system local IP (assigned to client system via other network adaptors).
The above change in behavior for the Windows store FortiClient client is observed as the application is limited by the Microsoft framework.
The Windows store application uses the framework provided by Microsoft and, hence, has no driver.
The GUI is also limited by Microsoft and its services.
When using the Microsoft store FortiClient, it creates a new 'PPP Adapter'.
In 'PPP Adapter' NETBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled, which is disabled using the vendor client.
The customer needs to reach the Windows/Microsoft support/forum to know more details regarding the MS framework limitation.
If possible, use the officially released standalone Forticlient software which can be downloaded via the below link:
