Description
This article describes the meaning of errors 'device descriptor read/64, error' and 'unable to enumerate USB device' when attempting to perform re-imaging for FortiSIEM hardware appliances
Scope
For FortiSIEM- 2000F/3500F.
Solution
1) When attempting to re-image the hardware appliance, it is required to create a bootable image via USB and connect the USB drive to FortiSIEM appliance as per the hardware configuration guide below:
https://fortinetweb.s3.amazonaws.com/docs.fortinet.com/v2/attachments/1b0a66ec-2436-11e9-b20a-f8bc12... (Page 10)
2) During the re-image process, sometimes it is observed that the following error printed on console:
usb 1-1.4: device descriptor read/64, error
usb 1-1-port4: unable to enumerate USB device
3) The error usually indicates an issue with the USB device or the USB port connected on FortiSIEM is not able to supply enough power to the USB.
4) To resolve the issue, first verify that the USB device is bootable from a test laptop, and if the USB device is working fine, try to connect to a different USB port (USB3.0, USB2.0) on the FortiSIEM appliance.
5) If the image is not bootable from a test laptop, replace it with a different USB stick.
