Description

This article describes how to migrate FortiAP between FortiLAN accounts with minimum downtime.

Scope

FortiLAN Cloud and FortiAP management.

Solution

  1. Engage Customer Service Team: Contact Customer Service to have FortiAP unregister from an existing account in FortiCare.
  2.  Register FortiAP to a new account: Customer service will also assist in registering FortiAP to a new account in FortiCare. FortiAP remains online in FortiLAN's old account to ensure service is uninterrupted.
  3. Preconfigure SSID: Preconfigure SSID and FortiAP profile as needed in the new account to minimize downtime.
  4. Follow the remaining steps listed in the admin guide: Moving a FortiAP between accounts | FortiLAN Cloud 23.4.0 | Fortinet Document Library

Note:

The following common errors are in steps 2,3 and 5 from the admin guide:

  • If it is not possible to remove FortiAP from inventory and get the error code 'Registered APs cannot be removed, Please unselect Registered APs and proceed', contact TAC for support.

  • If the below error 'device already in inventory' when deploying FortiAP, this means it was not removed from inventory.

  •  It is possible to select the preconfigured FortiAP profile when deploying FortiAP in the new account as shown below.

Verify FortiAP is online in the new account and clients can connect to SSID(s) created earlier during the process.

Note:

FortiAP cannot be migrated between accounts without downtime. This migration approach requires a maintenance window and will require a minimum amount of downtime.
