Solution

When the FortiClient or FortiClient VPN interface is loading very slowly or not responding, it can be necessary to disable IPv6 on MacOS.

To do that, follow the steps below to disable IPv6:

  • Select the Apple icon on the top left corner of the screen.
  • Open System Preferences -> Network.
  • Select the network already used.

Note: If connected to the internet wirelessly, the active adapter will be Wi-Fi. However, if connected via a LAN cable, the corresponding adapter will be Ethernet.

Select the Advanced button.

  • Next, select the TCP/IP tab.
  • Select the Configure IPv6 drop-down menu and set it to Off.
  • Select the OK button.
  • Restart the Mac to make sure the IPv6 is disabled.

* It can be possible to not have the turn-off IPv6 option available. In this case, run a command through the Terminal app:

Disable IPv6 from the command line:

  • Open Launchpad.
  • Search for Terminal.
  • Select the Terminal.app.
  • If the active network is WiFi enter the following command:

networksetup -setv6off Wi-Fi

  • If using Ethernet:

networksetup -setv6off Ethernet

  • It can be possible to combine both commands to disable IPv6 on WiFi and Ethernet at the same time:

networksetup -setv6off Ethernet && networksetup -setv6off Wi-Fi

Restart the MacOS and recheck the FortiClient interface issue.
