Description

This article explains how to enable the debug log within FortiClient and clarifies the difference in FortiClient v4.0 MR3.


Scope

Solution

FortiClient v4.0, FortiClient v4.0 MR1, and FortiClient v4.0 MR2
The instructions for enabling the debug log are:

1. Shutdown FortiClient by right clicking on the FortiClient icon bottom right of the screen.

2. From Windows command line run: "net stop fortishield".

3. Change the "loglevel" key to 7 under the parameters for investigation:

/HKLM/SOFTWARE/Fortinet/FortiClient/[ FA_FORTIPROXY | FA_FW | FA_Scheduler | FA_SHIELD | FA_WEBFILTER ]

4. From Windows command line run: "net start fortishield".

5. Reopen FortiClient.

6. Check the log under "Log View" and the Debug Log Type should be displayed.

6. Download the debug file from "file>settings".

FortiClient v4.0 MR3 allows a user to enable the Debug log level and to download the log file however it is not possible to see the log on the UI.
