Description

 

This article explains how to reset a lost admin password.

Scope


FortiWAN v4.1.2 and above.

Solution

 

FortiWAN-1000B (18:54-01.08.2015)
Ver:00010001
Serial number:FWN1KB3A17-----4
Total RAM: 8192MB
Boot up, boot device capacity: 1968MB.
Press any key to display configuration menu...
.....
[G]:  Get firmware image from TFTP server.
[F]:  Format boot device.
[B]:  Boot with backup firmware and set as default.
[Q]:  Quit menu and continue to boot with default firmware.
[H]:  Display this list of options.

Enter Selection [G]:

Enter G,F,B,Q,or H:

 

  1. Upload FortiWAN firmware V4.1.2 by TFTP in boot loader and save as Backup firmware.

 

[G]:  Get firmware image from TFTP server.

 

  1. Reboot and boot up with backup firmware and set as default.

[B]:  Boot with backup firmware and set as default.

 

  1. Follow https://kb.fortinet.com/kb/documentLink.do?externalID=FD34757 to reset password.

password: bcpb follow with S/N\

 

  1. Reset password by CLI command after login.

 

>resetpasswd

 

  1. Reboot and set up backup firmware again.

As of FortiOS version 7.2.4 and above, the Maintainer account feature no longer exists. refer to this KB article for more information:
