Description

This article describes how to increase the disk size on FortiAuthenticator-VM installed on the VMware platform.
Starting from v6.3.x and later it is possible to extend the disk space on the FortiAuthenticator-VM.

Scope FortiAuthenticator v6.3.x and later, VMware .
Solution

The FortiAuthenticator-VM package downloaded includes pre-sized VMDK (Virtual Machine Disk Format) files of 1GB for disk 1 (for the OS) and 60GB for disk 2 data, which is large enough for most small deployments.

  • In this scenario, the disk size on the VM machine has been increased and the VM machine has been rebooted.

The correct disk size is not reflected on the FortiAuthenticator-VM because the partition size is not dynamic.

  • To allocate more disk space to the VM, use the execute expand-partition command in FortiAuthenticator CLI:

execute expand-partition

Note:

This command will reboot the device. After the reboot, the correct increased disk size will be shown.

In case it still fails to show the correct disk size after the reboot then this action plan

  1. Back up the config.
  2. Increase the virtual disk size.
  3. Factory reset the FortiAuthenticator-VM (this will reformat the disk for the bigger size).
  4. Restore theconfig.

  • Verify the new disk size with the command:

get system status
