Description This article describes the behavior when the IPSec tunnel (IKEv2) shows some strange characters as User in VPN events log.
Scope FortiGate, VPN, IKEv2.
Solution

When using IKEv2 in the VPN IPSec tunnel, it is possible to see strange characters as Users in the VPN events log.

For example:

User_on_Ipsec.jpg

The user '*`8C' is the ASCII encoded character of the remote peer's IP address (42.96.56.67). It can be verified by using this tool http://www.unit-conversion.info/texttools/ascii/

The solution is to upgrade the firmware to at least v7.0.13, v7.2.5 or v7.4.0.
