Description This article describes the CLI configuration steps to configure FortiExtender to operate as a WAN extension with a FortiGate. This article is most useful when the FortiGate GUI is inaccessible.
Scope All supported versions of FortiGate.
Solution
  1. Connect the WAN port of the FortiGate with the LAN port on the FortiExtender.

  2. Enable DHCP on the WAN interface as well as the security fabric and SSH.

  3. Configure the FortiExtender profile on the FortiGate.

  1. Get the .apn information from the .cx and create a dataplan on the FortiGate under the FortiExtender profile - specifically enter a username, password, authentication method, and APN name.

  1. Add the dataplan to the FortiExtender profile.

  1. Check the dhcp-lease list to make sure the DHCP IP is seen for the FortiExtender:

  1. Check the status of the modem on the FortiExtender with the following command:

 

get system modem

  1. Verify the FortiExtender connectivity with the following command:

 

get extender status

If the signal strength is 0, it will not be possible to connect with FortiExtender. Contact the carrier provider if this occurs.
